Beware Fake DocuSign Emails

DocuSign has become one of the most popular electronic document signing tools today. Docusign uses both email notifications and browser-based approvals. Unfortunately, their popularity also makes it a favorite of hackers and spammers who like to send out fake emails pretending to be DocuSign documents.

Today we received a FAKE Docusign email claiming to have been sent by Diversified Computer Solutions.

We did NOT send this email.

If you receive this claiming to be from us, please DELETE it.

How Can You Identify A Fake Docusign Email

First, consider all incoming DocuSign emails to be suspect. Second, do not click on any links or buttons within the Docusign related emails unless:

  1. You are expecting that particular DocuSign email.
  2. The sending email address looks legitimate (both the sender's name AND their email address).
  3. You first hover your mouse over each DocuSign button and link to visually verify that those buttons and links actually point to DocuSign. Do not click them. Hover only. When you hover over a button or link in an email, the underlying web address (URL) typically appears at the bottom of the window.
  4. If all else fails, do not click and CALL the sender to verify the authenticity of the email. Do NOT reply to the suspect email.

In the case of the fake DocuSign email that we received today, the buttons and links within the fake email pointed to an obviously fake website address. Note the gobbledygook in the screenshot below.
